One of the first big developments of this long offseason for the St. Louis Blues just happened, and it is a relief. Winger Jordan Kyrou, who was a bit of a dud in 2025-26, underwent surgery on his knee and is expected to be ready to go for training camp for the 2026-27 season.
Kyrou, who had 18 goals and 28 assists for 36 points last season, suffered a monumental drop-off from his efforts in 2024-25. There is no denying that his absence from the scoresheet is one of the many reasons why the Blues were unable to secure a playoff spot in back-to-back seasons.
The knee surgery is not a confirmed indication of an injury he was dealing with during the season, but it points to that. That also could point to the lackluster performance but that doesn't paint the full picture.
Back in November, Kyrou was benched in a 3-0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres, and head coach Jim Montgomery had a clear message for him following it.
if memory serves, following that benching, he came back with a superb performance. He would score a goal and registered four shots in that 4-3 loss to the Seattle Kraken, and nearly ended it before Seattle did.
For the upcoming season, it is unclear where the Blues go with Kyrou. Obviously, prioritizing No. 25' s health is the most important thing, and with a no-trade clause, it kind of puts a block on moving him. Now, the Blues have to prepare a plan to incorporate him into the top-six forward group, with a lot of talent making it's way up the pipeline.
Can Kyrou battle back from this injury, surgery, and heal enough to pick things back up in 2026-27?
